Platform

Kasoft Software has chosen two quite disparate development platforms which help it to balance the conflicting demands of its mission.

  • The first platform is the Advanced RISC Machine from ARM. ARM is a low-power processor architecture with a compact RISC instruction set. The toolset used for development on this platform includes the in-house Kasm assembler, and the ARM BBC BASIC module provided with RISC OS, the first operating system for the ARM processor.
  • The second platform is the Java Virtual Machine from Sun Microsystems. The Java virtual machine is a cross-platform operating environment which provides a virtual instruction set and is bundled with extensive contemporary API implementations. The toolset used for development on this platform includes the 100% Java bootstrapped NetBeans IDE and the Java compilers from Sun and the GNU project, as well as the Sun HotSpot and Kaffe virtual machine implementations.
